The St. Paul Growers Association will be launching a new Farmers Market in Vadnais Heights beginning Wednesday, June 22. The Vadnais Heights Economic Development Corporation (VHEDC) has been working closely with the St. Paul Growers Association to bring this new amenity to the community. The origins of this initiative began with the City Center Task Force which is a partnership between VHEDC and the City of Vadnais Heights working on projects to increase the economic vitality in the City Center of Vadnais Heights.

The Market will run Wednesdays from June 22 to September 28th from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. It will be located at the north-end parking lot of the Helen Houle Medical Building near the intersection of County Road E and Labore Road.  All of the produce is grown within 50 miles of St. Paul and is sold from the grower directly to customers. Jack Gerten with the St. Paul Growers stated, “We pride ourselves on the produce being fresh and local. We will have 30 selling spaces and will be offering a variety of vegetables, fruit, flowers and value added items such as jams & jellies and bakery goods.”

In addition, each week at the Market there will be a community organization as well as a health/wellness organization present. Special features of this local market include partnerships with the local food shelves in Vadnais Heights and White Bear Lake. Shoppers will have the opportunity to “buy one, donate one” to support increasing the supply of fresh offerings at the local food shelves. In addition, anybody who is on the EBT program can bring their card to the Market, and receive  a $1 for $1 match up to $10. This can be taken advantage weekly by EBT program participants.

The VHEDC would like to especially thank the Davis Group, property management company of the Helene Houle Medical Center for their support. VHEDC Executive Director, Ling Becker affirmed the various participants contributing to the project, “It was with the support and effort of many community partners that we were able to bring this great feature to the community in a very short timeframe. We are looking forward to a wonderful season and invite all those  live and work in the area to come and check it out!”
